Back 2 School Bot

Here it is.....the B2S robot backpack. All finished and with it's happy pre-k owner.

It was a super fun project to work on with the boy. I hope there are many more to come like it....

Now, off to the allergist! Long story, but we had a fire ant incident a few weeks ago. Not fun. More to come on that another time.

Coming up this week on a later post.....a fun project to make the knees of your kids jeans last a bit longer. Fun stuff!

Beginnings of a Robot Pack

Amazing how far one can get when you have a spare moment or two. This is how far I have gotten on this little project. The zipper is a little wonky, but it works.

Now I just need to construct the back and work out the webbing length for it. I am thinking it's going to need something to make it a bit stiffer on the bottom and back to keep it's shape. I didn't mind his last one slouching a little, but this one being so boxy will need to be able to keep it's shape a bit more, I think. Any suggestions? I cannot think of the name of the plastic-y stuff that is used for bags and such. Or is it plastic-y? What is it, anyway? I honestly have no clue.

Well, it's late....off to bed for me! I am trying to get myself back into a school schedule bedtime, but this Olympics deal has made it pretty tough. Anyone else having this problem?

In The Works

Things being collaborated on with the Monkey Boy:

A robot backpack to be made from the robot drawing above by the now five year old. He has some pretty specific requests for it too. I used to be able to just say, "hey Jake, how 'bout we make a dino back pack?!"He would agree and we'd pick out some fabric for it. However, I should note he has always had a color preference of green. As long as it has that color in it, it's all good. Which I have to laugh a little because this specific robot pack is "required" to have a "green zipper for his mouth mom". Mom? What happened to Mama?!

This is about as far as I have gotten so far. Without a pattern, it's been fun to try and make one based on his picture. Don't laugh, but I actually used my new laptop for measurement of the finished product. Seriously. When I tried it up next to him, it turned out to be the perfect size! So, I based the pattern on that.

Hey, it works for me. More pics to come when it's finished.

Random Things

Well, FINALLY I have my new laptop (long story..old computer died) and things are starting to get back to normal. Well, almost normal. There have been many, many changes the past few weeks and this Summer has been one of many transitions. Let's do a little recap shall we?

-husband changed jobs (this is a very good thing)

-my son's best friend moved away ( this is a not very good thing)

-my computer died and left me having to wait for my hubby's puter to get home with him everyday for me to use ( this worked, but was very painful. I do not recommend it )

-My son's school called and announced that the Kindergarten class has been cancelled ( very, very NOT good thing) I would say more, but I should not. My mother taught me that if I did not have something nice to say, I should not say it at all. And I do not have anything nice to say about it. No, that is not true. I do. Read on to find out what....

-random person came to door and said they wanted to buy Hubby's truck. So we sold it. Now we are a one car family and I LOVE it! I know, I am sure most think I am nuts, but with my husbands new job and how close it is, it totally works for us. Saves on gas too, which is a very good thing.

-The school situation...well, we chose to look at it as a blessing is disguise and made the best of the situation. I could have been mad and yelled and just made others cry too, but what use would that be? None. And it certainly would not show God's love either. Something very important to me. We had discussed having our son attend a "bridging" program before officially entering K5, being that he is a late Summer birthday and all, and knew even though he was going to be attending a half day kinder program, we still might be doing that anyway come next Fall. So, that is what we are doing. We found a great school, closer to home that he will attend K4 and then next year officially go to "big kid kindergarten" as the Monkey Boy likes to call it. Whew, panic attack averted. I have to admit though, being this late in the year and school about to start, I was pretty nervous about even being able to find something with an available opening! Thankfully, the school we are going to had just opened another class for his age....yay!

Of course, this does mean a new backpack is in order. More of that to come along with some other fun back to school projects I've been working on.

It's good to be back and blogging again.....

Happy Monday to you!

Some Chocolate To Start Your Day?

I love those Monday mornings when you get up and eat breakfast, do some chores and then sit with your mocha ( or latte or green tea...whatever your preference) and then open up the laptop to check some email.....then Etsy and see this:

It may not be much to anyone else, but seeing my chocolate baby booties on the front page just totally made my Monday!

Are you hungry for some chocolate now?
